Something that I heard on the news, and was surprised because it's not anything that I would think about, was to unplug all of our little power packs and gadgets when they are not in use. This includes: cell phone charger, toothbrush charger, video camera charger, and I am sure most homes have countless other conveniences plugged into power. Unplug anything that is not being used at the moment. According to the news article there are millions of kilowatt hours being used and wasted in this way.
Another thing in the news lately is the usage and banning of plastic bags. Lets get rid of our plastic bags, they are filling our land fills and leaching chemicals into the soil as they decompose. It is up to us to do our little part, there are so many alternatives. Cloth bags that can be bought or made and will last for a very long time. If you are one of the really serious people about recycling make your grocery shopping bags out of discarded t-shirts (see below). For the times when you go to the mall and want something more fashionable to carry your purchases, there are some talented artists making wonderful bags for sale. I am sure one of them could come up with something to suit your tastes and fulfill your needs. Visit over at The Sewing Mom and have a look at a sample of her bags. So And Sew Crafty has a nice selection of bags over at her Etsy Shop, well worth a lookie lou. This is Ellens Etsy Shop called Ellens Treasures she has some beautiful bags as well. Another choice is Pink Lemonade Boutique Bags. I hope you visit these sellers, enjoy and shop with them!
I am using an old t-shirt with sleeves see the image below to see how I cut the sleeves out and cut around the neckline to make the handle and the opening large enough to insert your items. Then stitch across the bottom where I have the white chalk line to close it up. You could stitch or surge around the handles and the opening to re- enforce the raw edges. You could also make bias tape to bind the raw edges if you want your bag to last for a length of time. I have instructions on how to make your own very affordable bias tape hereIf you care to fancy it up add sew on, or iron on decals.

This bag made out of knit fabric really expands to hold your items.
There is a very good "Going Green" post at A Simple Life
titled: ASL is Going Green.
Until next time

That's a good idea - our grocery store just had a remodel, and had "green" canvas bags on special for 99 cents. I got 3. Should be all I ever need.
Here via entrecard.
AWESOME! We all have t-shirts laying around that we never wear...what better way to make use of them and be a little greener in the process! Kudos!
What an easy project! I must admit that I have every intention of using green bags but they always get forgotten at home. I have to start remembering to put them in my car at the exact moment the become empty after my shopping trip!
Lovely idea... nicely done!!!
Thought I'd let you know that I made 4 of these wonderful bags in about 30 minutes (start to finish) last night! YEA!!! Never again will a Wal-Mart or any other store bag darken my under kitchen sink hide-a-way! *smile*
Thanks again!!!
that's awesome Jean! Wonderful idea! I might give it a try when I have time. Maybe, after I give birth to Baby Kaiden. :) Thanks for droppin by! :)

I've taken to unplugging quite a few things when they're not in use. It drives my husband crazy, he doesn't believe it's helping, but I do. He'll just have to go crazy, while I go green! :-D
Thanks for the link love! I love your t-shirt bag idea, what a great way to recycle!
That is such an awesome idea! I love it!!
Awesome idea. Thanks for sharing.
Very cool! I may have to try that. I bought a couple of canvas bags and I'm using totes that were just sitting in the college.
what a cool idea, thanks! HOpefully I can cut straight, I am notorious for *not* cutting straight. lol and sewing isn't my best strength either. lol
Just BRILLIANT! Can't wait to convert my old tee shirts. Thanks!
nice idea!
